  1. IADR/UNILEVER HATTON DIVISIONAL AWARD

    The award shall be known as the IADR/UNILEVER Hatton Divisional Award and shall be a cash prize of SGD 1,000 for the first winner in each category. The award is open to all dental researchers who are members of IADR/SEA Division. A researcher can choose to enter into one of the following categories in the competition:

    Categories of Competition:

    Junior:
    Currently enrolled in a BDS/DDS (Bachelor's and/or dental degree). This competition will be limited to those candidates who have carried out their research as part of undergraduate/professional training (research undertaken as an undergraduate science student, as a dental student, or at a time of pursuing an intercalated science degree while in training as a dental student.

    Senior: Entrants must be enrolled in a post-dental, post-graduate, or PhD program or have performed the research submitted to the competition within three (3) years of their earning the award of PhD. Entrants for this category would have carried out research as part of a higher degree, either a Masters, PhD, or MD with previous laboratory experience, or as part of specialty training, and post-doctorals. The Senior Category is divided into two sections:
    There will be a special section in the program of each Annual Meeting of the Division for entries to this travel award competition. The program will be timetabled in such a way as to allow for more in-depth questions being asked of the presenters in this section. The presentation will be submitted in the form of a poster. It will also have to be presented orally at a special session, and candidates will have to answer queries put forth by the judges. In the event that 2 or more candidates are considered to be of equal merit, the prize shall be shared equally amongst them. In any year if no candidate is deemed to have achieved a worthy standard, the travel award shall be withheld.

    The award money is designed to be spent by the recipient to attend the main IADR meeting immediately following the IADR/SEA Division meeting.

  2. Best Paper Awards:

    Through the generous sponsorship of some dental companies and the LOC of the 1995 IADR meeting in Singapore, the IADR/SEA Division is able to give a cash prize of USD 500 to the presenter who presents the best paper in each of the following research areas at the 2011 Annual Meeting:
    Only active IADR/SEA Division members are eligible to receive the awards. Both oral and poster presentations will be eligible for the award. Acceptance of abstracts for presentation at the IADR/SEA Division Meeting automatically qualifies the presenter for entry into the competition, with the exception of abstracts submitted for the Division Travel Award Competition and those that are indicated by the presenters as not to be considered for the awards. In the event that there are not sufficient entries in any of the research areas, the award shall be withheld. Judging will be done by a secret panel of judges appointed by the IADR/SEA Division Council. The judges will participate as audience during the normal program of the Annual Meeting and will be based on the normal course of presentation. No separate judging session will be organized.

  3. DENTSPLY - Charles T. Kean Memorial Award

    This award is made in memory of the late Charles T. Kean in recognition of his support for dental education and research through a generous donation from Dentsply Asia. The award is to assist a deserving researcher to attend and present his/her research result at the Annual Meeting of the IADR/SEA Division.

    To be eligible for the award, the candidate must be an active IADR/SEA Division member and the primary author of an abstract acceptable for presentation at the Annual Meeting of the IADR/SEA Division. The abstract must not have been published or presented at any major scientific meeting except closed meeting held within his/her dental school or a Sectional meeting of the IADR/SEA Division.

    Application for this award should reach the secretary of the IADR/SEA Division (Dr Michael Mah) together with a duly completed abstract submission form before the official deadline. A covering letter giving brief biodata and a short statement of the reasons for support is required. A reference letter from the Dean or Department Head confirming the candidate's eligibility and in support of the application is also required.

    An Award Committee will be appointed by the IADR/SEA Division Council to select the awardees. Preference will be given to candidate who has no access to institutional support for meeting attendance. All applicants shall receive notification of result from the Division Secretary at least one month prior to the date of meeting.

  4. IADR-SEA/DENTSPLY Student Clinician Program (SCP)

    The SCP is a research based competition for undergraduate dental students. It is a global Dentsply program and has been conducted for the past 50 years. The objective of the program is to promote and support dental research by giving early exposure of research opportunities to undergraduate dental students.

    Students will need to prepare a poster and a table presentation on a research topic relating to dental or basic science and present their findings to a panel of judges. They are judged on the clarity of their research presentation and how well they can defend their research protocol, methods and conclusions. The winners of the program will be invited to attend the American Dental Association Annual Meeting (San Francisco 2012) where they get the opportunity to present their poster on an international stage.

  5. IADR-SEA Division/ Joseph Lister Awards in Oral Disease Prevention

    The IADR-SEA Division/Joseph Lister Awards are designed for junior investigators (dental students) who exhibit potential for a productive career in dental research. Mentors are strongly urged to support and select a project for the competition that is original, well-planned, and carefully executed.

    Two winners will be selected to receive the cash prizes and plaques; USD 1,000 first place winner and USD 500 second place winner. Grants include funding the cash awards, plaques and administrative fee.

    Eligibility
    Entrants must be citizens of member countries of the IADR-SEA division (or who have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of submission of the abstract-those with a "green card") or persons of other nationalities whose research is performed in the Asia
    Candidates MUST be IADR-SEA members.

    The papers must not been published (even as abstracts) or presented at any national or international meetings (excluding state, regional, or institutional meetings) prior to submission.

    Category
    Junior: This competition will be limited to those candidates who have carried out their research as part of undergraduate/professional training (research undertaken as an undergraduate science student, as a dental student, or during the first two years of pursuing an intercalated science degree while in training as a dental student).
    Individuals with a formal research degree (Master's and/or Ph.D.) are not eligible for this category.
    As currently a lot of Junior Research awards from several industries hence Johnson& Johnson will open the award in the area of Oral Disease Prevention only
    Procedures
    Each Country Awards Committee will select the winners from dental schools which applied for the Competition

    The applied abstracts should be organized under the following headings:
    Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, References, and Figures/Tables (if necessary). The initial abstracts and extended abstracts are blind reviewed by the Committee, so include ONLY the title and abstract ID number at the top preceding the Introduction. References should be listed alphabetically. References and their citations should follow the style of the Journal of Dental Research. Please note that references, footnotes, and diagrams are included in the 6 page limit. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the return of the extended abstract to the competitor.

    Presentation:
    Candidates will present their research in an oral presentation format for the Country Level Competition, two winners from each countries need to present a poster at the IADR-SEA Annual Meeting.

    Judging Criteria:
    At the Country Level, Awards Committee will judge the entries as follows:
    20% For extended abstract; 40% On verbal presentation (up to 10 minutes); 40%
    For question-and-answer period (not to exceed 5 minutes).

    The winners from each countries will be announced at the Award Ceremonies, IADR-SEA annual meeting in Nov 2011, Singapore.

    Grant funds
    The grant for this award is USD 1,700, which cover USD 1,500 in monetary awards plus a small administrative fee and a plaque for the winners
